James E. Smith, Jr.
James attended the University of South Carolina and obtained a Bachelor of Arts in Political Science in 1990, and then went on to obtain his Juris Doctor in 1995. In November of 1996, he began a solo practice and currently is the sole shareholder of his firm, JAMES E. SMITH, JR., P.A.

While maintaining his own private law practice and being a member of the South Carolina House of Representatives, James also serves in our Armed Forces. After serving for eight (8) years as a JAG officer in South Carolina Army National Guard, James resigned and re-enlisted to pursue a commission as an Infantry Officer. James served in support of Operation Enduring Freedom Afghanistan with the 218th Infantry Brigade.

He was an Operations Officer Company Mentor for the ANP in Zabul Province from May 2007 to December 2007 and a PMT Team Chief for Shar E Sofa District of Zabul and North Eastern Khandahar Provinces from December 2007 to May 2008. In March of 2008, James and his team overcame an IED attack that resulted in no fatalities, but left James with permanent injuries. His service and leadership in Afghanistan was acknowledged when he was awarded the Combat Infantryman’s Badge, The Bronze Star and The Purple Heart.

James was elected to the South Carolina House of Representatives in November 1996. He has served as Assistant Minority House Leader, Chief Minority Whip, and was elected House Minority Leader in 2002. He served as House Minority Leader through 2005. James was re-elected to the House in November of 2010 and currently serves on the Judiciary Committee.

Mohammad Amin - Translator, Cultural Specialist

Amin brings nine years’ experience as an interpreter and cultural adviser for US Army, National Guard and Special Forces units. He is fluent in English, Dari and Pashtun. He served as a Combat Interpreter handling critical translation services for trainings, briefings, intelligence, security patrols and key leader engagements. As Cultural Adviser, Amin facilitated superior interactions between US and Afghan personnel advising on matters of culture, security and joint operations. Amin is weapons trained and qualified.

Amin enables The Congaree Group to provide translator services, cultural advisement and safety/risk management consultation to all of our corporate and government clients.
